Sustainability at the top of the agenda at Packaging Innovations & Empack 2025

Packaging Innovations & Empack 2025 brought together the brightest minds and most forward-thinking companies in the packaging industry. We’re happy veterans of this event – the value gained from being at the forefront of discussions on sustainability and carbon reduction in the sector is invaluable.

The event provided a vital platform for collaboration, bringing together over 400 exhibitors and thousands of industry professionals. We were delighted to see that one of the dominant themes at this year’s event was sustainability, with a particular focus on the circular economy. As businesses face increasing regulatory pressure and consumer demand for more sustainable solutions, our presence at the event emphasised the importance of accurate carbon measurement and reduction strategies in achieving Net-Zero goals.

At our stand, we engaged in discussions with packaging manufacturers and converters, logistics providers, and retailers, helping them understand how precise carbon data can drive material efficiency, reduce environmental impact and comply with the wave of regulations and frameworks. Many of our conversations focused on the growing pressure from legislation and consumers for accurate, granular CO2e data.

This demand is becoming a decisive factor in shaping business decisions. Attendees appreciated the simplicity of automation in achieving this accuracy and saw significant value in providing clients with the option to make informed decisions based not only on financial factors but also on the sustainability impacts of their designs, quotes, and estimates.

Many of our conversations centred on the growing urgency for granular carbon data, with both brands and suppliers highlighting how carbon metrics have become a decisive factor in tender requirements and customer relationships. This shift reflects the broader industry transformation, where accurate carbon measurement is no longer just a differentiator but a fundamental business requirement.

Our discussions revealed how packaging manufacturers are increasingly being asked to provide verified carbon footprints for individual products and processes, while also demonstrating clear pathways to reduction in their operations and supply chain. This aligns perfectly with our automated solutions that enable real-time carbon calculations and data-driven decision-making at both the operational and product level.

With shared sustainability goals in mind, we explored potential partnerships to help businesses align with 2030 emissions targets. As a leading provider of carbon footprint analysis for the packaging sector, we demonstrated how businesses can integrate life-cycle assessments and carbon accounting into their packaging strategies, ensuring sustainability claims are backed by robust, science-based data.

Technological advancements were another key topic, with the Smart Packaging Zone featuring solutions such as NFC chips and RFID tags to enhance consumer engagement and traceability. It was clear technology is becoming increasingly important for efficiently and accurately measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of packaging.

We also got the chance to connect with some of our valued clients and partners, including Aura – who contributed to an insightful and lively panel discussion ‘Illuminating the Future of Packaging’ on the Circular Economy stage – giving a couple of name checks for CarbonQuota along the way.

As Packaging Innovations & Empack 2025 came to a close, one message was clear: the future of packaging lies in data-driven, sustainable solutions. CarbonQuota remains committed to helping businesses navigate this transformation, ensuring carbon reduction is at the heart of packaging strategies for a more sustainable tomorrow.
